LIHU‘E — Two Kauaians previously on the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Most Wanted list are now moving through the state court system in unrelated cases.
Facing multiple drug charges is Shauday Pulelehua Ragudo, 23, with a last known address in Kapa‘a.
She was arrested recently, and twice made the Most Wanted list, in August and earlier this month, when she was wanted for contempt of court for failing to show up for her scheduled jury trial in another matter.
In the case heard before 5th Circuit Judge Randal Valenciano Tuesday, Ragudo is represented by attorney Dan Hempey, and is charged with second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, fourth-degree promotion of a harmful drug, and two counts of unlawful use of or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
She pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial, which Valenciano set for Jan. 4, 2010.
Lori Wada, first deputy prosecuting attorney, said Ragudo failed to appear on a previous trial date, and to her $40,000 bail was added $1,000 bail for contempt of court.
Kevin Kazuo Taketa, 24, with a last known address in Lihu‘e, made the Most Wanted list last month for his grand jury bench warrants for third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and unlawful use of or possession of drug paraphernalia, and was in court Tuesday on those charges.
Through Deputy Public Defender John Calma, Taketa pleaded not guilty to the charges and requested a jury trial, which Valenciano set for Jan. 4, 2010.
Valenciano ordered Taketa, who is free on bail, to turn over any firearms, firearms licenses and ammunition, if he owns or possesses any of those.
Calma requested discovery, the documents the prosecution will use in the state’s case against Taketa, and told Valenciano that Deputy Public Defender Edmund Acoba is Taketa’s attorney of record.
