LIHU‘E — Glenn Tamagawa will be the captain of Team Kaua‘i, which is set to host the top 16 junior golfers from Atlanta Junior Golf Association beginning today.
The top 16 junior golfers from the Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association will match up with their Atlanta counterparts for the first of two rounds of match play at the Wailua Golf Course starting at 11:30 a.m.
The two days of matches will be played in a Ryder Cup format with the front nine of Day One played in Four-Ball Match play and the back nine in Foursome Match play with points being awarded for each nine.
Round Two, starting at 11:30 a.m., Friday, will be played in Singles Match Play with the ability to earn team points on the front, back and overall.
Team Kaua‘i is the defending champions.
The Atlanta team arrived Tuesday night following a long journey that included three connecting flights where most of their luggage and golf equipment missed the connection.
During the Team Atlanta’s stay on Kaua‘i, team members will be housed with Kaua‘i families while many of the traveling Atlanta parents and supporters are staying in hotels.
The Boys 15-18 team from Kaua‘i includes Sean Mamaclay, Weston Moniz, Levi Miyashiro and Justin Uegawa being matched up against Atlanta’s Travis Roe, Justin Mattheis, Tyler Brantley and Dylan Coffey.
The 15-18 Boys will play from the back tees at 6,991 yards.
Reyn Morioka, Braden Robley, Pono Tokioka and Ken Miyata form Team Kaua‘i 13-14 Boys, which will match up against Atlanta’s Nick Fazio, Boyd Wilson, Wyatt Larkin and Bailey Ulp. Their totaly yardage will play at 6,602 yards.
Team Kaua‘i Girls include Daezsa Tomas, Naea Oda, Taylor Viquelia and Kalau Tanaka-Pessimino going up against Team Atlanta’s Wallis Fairvalley, Emee Herbert, Kayla Jones and Carlisle Withers.
K.C. Loo, Keith Jose, Bryden Salvador and Trevor Kua form the Team Kaua‘i 12 and Under Boys team that will match up against K.J. Smith, Matthew Collins, Justin Davie and Ryan Stachler of Team Atlanta.
Both the girls and the Boys 12 Under teams play from 5,974 yards.
There is no admission fee to view the competition between the Kaua‘i and Atlanta junior golfers.
