KAPA‘A — The Kapa‘a Eagles Pop Warner program won both its games against the Hanapepe Colts to preserve its top seeding in the division standings, Saturday.
Thomas Yam ran for two touchdowns and Chayse Basuel added a final-quarter score in the Junior Pee Wee 19-0 win over the Colts at the New Kapa‘a Town Park stadium.
Daniel Lagana added the only point-after run for Kapa‘a in the third quarter following the score that came at the 6:58 mark.
Quarterback Rashaan Kuhaulua threw to Daniel Alonzo for two touchdowns and Shain Davis iced the win on a 45-yard runback of a pass interception in the final quarter to lead the Eagles Junior Midgets to a 30-0 win over Hanapepe that came on a running clock in the final 6:43 of action.
Kuhaulua booted two successful point-afters in the first half.
With the wins, Kapa‘a improves to 4-0-0 and eight points for the Jr. PW and Jr. Midget teams.
The Lihu‘e Patriot JPW team got scores from Ryland Peahu and Douglas Miyasato in its 16-0 win over Kekaha JPW.
Aaron Renaud’s foot split the uprights on two successful PATs in that win.
Lihu‘e Patriots’ JPW win puts them in second place with a 2-1 record and four points while Kekaha and Koloa are tied for third place with 1-2 records and two points each. Hanapepe is 0-3 and seeking its first win.
Following Kapa‘a in the Jr. Midget standings, Koloa, enjoying a bye weekend, is in second place with a 2-1 record and four points.
Hanapepe Colts, following its loss to Kapa‘a, is in a tie with Kekaha, which finished the day by picking up its first season win, 26-6 over the Lihu‘e Patriots Jr. Midgets.
Acetyn Emayo worked the ball for four touchdowns and a point-after boot in the win, the first score coming early in the first quarter when Emayo returned the kickoff 60 yards for the score.
He followed that by two more touchdowns on runs of 36 yards and five yards in the second quarter. A point-after boot gave Kekaha the 19-0 halftime bulge.
Coming back late in the third quarter, Emayo ran his final TD on a 33-yard scoop, the point-after run taken in by Neno Costales at the 4:16 mark.
Lihu‘e Patriots, working strong behind the ball, finally broke into the books when Keenan Kaluahine-Arroyo, whose brother Kaulana plays for Waimea High School, scampered for 23 yards and a Patriot score, its first of the season, with 8:52 remaining in the contest.
The point-after kick fell short and the Patriots round out the Jr. Midget standings at 0-3.
Lihu‘e opens the program, Saturday, when the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League moves its games to the Hanapepe Stadium starting at 9 a.m.
Lihu‘e JPW will open against the Hanapepe Colts starting at 9 a.m., followed by the Patriot Jr. Midgets taking on the Colts starting at 11 a.m.
Kekaha, the hosting association, will open its JPW team against Koloa starting at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Jr. Midget matchup starting at 3:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League invites the island to its annual cheer competition that will start at 10 a.m. at the Bernice Hundley Gym on the Kapa‘a High School campus.
