The Eagles JPW win gives the team an undefeated 3-0 record and six points for sole possession of the lead in that division. Koloa drops to a three-way tie for second place with a 1-2 record and two points.
The Kekaha JPW, taking a 26-0 win over the Hanapepe Colts behind two touchdowns from Jacob Rapanot Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium, is at 1-1 along with the Lihu‘e Patriots JPW that enjoyed a bye.
The Hanapepe Colts drop to 0-2 in the JPW standings.
Rapanot’s scoring runs of seven yards in the first quarter and a 29-yard scoring scamper in the second quarter put Kekaha on a 14-0 halftime bulge. Rapanot ran in the point-after at the 4:01 mark in the first quarter. Cody Taniguchi ran in the second quarter point-after with 4:32 remaining in the half.
Kekaha continued to churn in the third quarter, grinding out two touchdowns after Shandon San Agustin-Nordmeier charged two yards to paydirt at the 6:05 mark.
Taniguchi iced the victory by rushing three yards to the end zone with 1:51 remaining in the period.
Kaikea Sonoda tallied two touchdowns and Rashaan Kuhaulua threw to Daniel Alonzo for a 45-yard score to lead the Kapa‘a Eagles Jr. Midgets to a 20-6 edge over the tenacious Koloa Jr. Midgets.
Koloa’s Kyren Rapacon recovered a fumble and ran the pigskin 58 yards to paydirt to prevent a shutout.
Sonoda opened the scorebooks late in the first quarter on a four-yard score and followed that with an 11-yard scoring run with 7:20 remaining in the game. Kuhaulua booted the point-after following the fourth-quarter score.
Following Rapacon’s fumble recovery score that deadlocked the contest 6-6, Kuhaulua connected with Alonzo to break the stalemate with just 18 seconds remaining in the half.
The Kapa‘a Eagles’ Jr. Midget win gives them an undefeated record at 3-0 and six points in the divison standings.
Koloa drops to 2-1 and four points followed by the Hanapepe Colts at 1-1 and two points. The Colts Jr. Midgets picked up a forfeit win over the Kekaha squad that failed to make the minimum roster before game time.
Kekaha and Lihu‘e sit at 0-2.
That stalemate in the division standings will be broken Saturday when Kekaha meets Lihu‘e in the morning series at the New Kapa‘a Town Park Stadium.
The JPW squads kick off at 9 a.m. followed by the Jr. Midgets at 11 a.m.
