NAWILIWILI — Kaua‘i’s Tyler Navarro finished with a the day’s high score of 245 to lead the Red Raider boys to a 1137-1033 win over the Menehune, Thursday.
Brianne Hornos, shooting on the Kaua‘i girls’ team, finished with a high score of 229, but the Red Raiders fell to Waimea, 1093-1033.
“She had five bulls in the standing position,” said Waimea coach Victor Aguilar. “That is really good. She’s on fire.”
Hornos finished the standing position with 73 points, the highest score for the girls in that position for the day. Waimea’s closest shooter, Dyan Tabalan, carded a 69 in that position, and Kaua‘i’s next highest shooter to Hornos, Kristyn Yamamotoya, carded a 57.
Waimea girls were led by Tabalan (231), Melissa Kagawa (221), Amber Duldulao (219), Bessie Baclig (211), and Leann Lazaro (211).
Kaua‘i’s top shooters following Hornos included Delissa Nobriga, returning for her second year, with 211 followed by Meghan Fujimoto (207), Taylor Ludington (202) and Britney Fernandes (184).
Kaua‘i boys were led by Navaro’s 245 followed by Sheldon Chu (240), Shaun Koide (234), Sam Lang (221), and Reyn Morioka (197).
John Medeiros topped the Waimea boys with a 220 followed by Bryle Rivera finishing with 206. Amlan Fujimura (203), Charles Agmata (202) and Benigno Baclig (202) rounded out the scoring Menehune.
Island School swept the Kapa‘a High School over at the Island School complex, the Island boys soaring past the Warriors 991-712. On the girls arena, four Island School girls outshot Kapa‘a, 759-747.
Logan Domingo finished with the high score in Puhi with a 217 for Island School. He was followed by Ben Steuri, a first-year shooter, with 207. Steven Baptiste (195), Bronson Griep (190), and Marcus Punua (182) rounded out the Island School shooters.
Adam Clark topped the Kapa‘a shooters at 161 followed by Thomas Woods (158), Marvin Woods (155), Jonah Plemer (120) and Jameson Macadamia (118) rounded out the Warriors team scoring.
Lindsey Duarte finished with a 209, just a point ahead of Stephanie Steuri’s 208 to lead the Island School team in its win. Pii Kali added 198 and Giffin Lord ended with 144 in the Island tally.
Mary Walker topped the Kapa‘a girls with a 188 followed by Kaylyn Armstrong-Shiira (172), Jessica Pasodava (158), Amy Niwa (125), and Alison Yamamoto (104).
The KIF matches continue on Thursday when Waimea travels to Kapa‘a and Kaua‘i visits the Island School complex starting at 3 p.m.
