Samuel Beck
Samuel James Beck of Kalaheo died Aug. 26, 2009, in Honolulu at age 53. Born in Hillsboro, Ore., he worked for Islandwide Refrigeration, Llc.
He is survived by his wife Lisa Beck, daughters Michelle and Jamie Beck, mother Florence Beck and sisters Susan Stuart, Mary Bjenke and Leann Odam.
Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Salt Pond in Kaua‘i.

Octavia Poliaueomakana Holt Nakamura of Hanama‘ulu died Aug. 28, 2009, at her home at age 70. Born on Dec. 30, 1938, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, she was a retired security guard for Po‘ipu Kai Resort.
She is preceded in death by her parents Barney and Eunice Kamai Holt and brother William Holt.
She is survived by her husband Mitchell Nakamura of Hanama‘ulu; sons Allen (Nani) Bactad Jr. of Waimea, Joe (Corrina) Bactad of Kekaha, Tom (Debbie) Benuzi-Bactad of Nevada, Mitchell (Shannon) Nakamura Jr. of Hanapepe; daughters Cheryl (Matthew) Lemalu of Hanama‘ulu, Charmaine (Alfred) Bactad of Hanamaulu, Helen (Ralph) Tokuda of Kapa‘a, Raynette (Orlando) Bactad of California, Eunice (Rick) Estacio Jr. of Hanama‘ulu, Dene (Kelly) Soares of California, Patricia (Eric) Arizo of Waimea, Lavern (Levi) Squire of Texas; brothers John “Mamala” (Puanani) Holt of Kekaha, Joe Bactad of O‘ahu, Herbert (Val) Bactad of O‘ahu; 46 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation at 5:30 p.m., service at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Another service will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, Sept. 10. For questions, call Cheryl at 245-4570.

Antone Baptiste
Antone “Tony” Baptiste of Kilauea died Aug. 26, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 94. Born on Aug. 7, 1915, in Kilauea, he retired as an electrician with Kilauea Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by his sister, Beatrice (Arthur) Rego of O‘ahu and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at St. Sylvester Church with viewing from 9 to 9:45 a.m., and mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens at 11:45 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Baptiste family with arrangements.
Makakekoa Cristobal
Makakekoa Cristobal died Aug. 28, 2009, in Orem, Utah, at age 1. He was born on Jan. 15, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandfather Arsenio Cristobal of ‘Ele‘ele.
Maka is survived by his parents Lydell M. and Destiny (Delgado) Cristobal of Orem, Utah; paternal grandparents Lydell “Steve” and Laura Cristobal of Lihu‘e; grandmother Michele Muller of Indiana; great-grandparents Fausta Cristobal of ‘Ele‘ele and Patrick and Carol Medeiros of Lihu‘e; uncle Sean Cristobal; aunty Nicole Cristobal; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.
A private service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, in Orem, Utah.
Hanzs Martins
Hans Kaulana Martins of Kapa‘a died Aug. 23, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 61. Born on April 4, 1948, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired Police Sergeant.
He is survived by his wife Bernadine “Koerte” Martins; daughter Lisa (Scott) Yamaguchi; grandchildren Camryn and Rhys Yamaguchi; parents Jacob Kolae and Theresa “Ornellas” Martins; brothers Jacob (Sue) Martins Jr. and Christopher Keoni (Kuulei) Martins; sister Erika Martins; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation from 8:30 to 10 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Scattering of ashes will be private. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.
