PUHI — Jack and Kate Machorek lit up the stopwatches at the Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics timed trials, Saturday at the YMCA pool.
Jack Machorek, 8, finished with five first finishes in his perfect meet where he posted improvements in all five events. Beyond that, Jack also set the pace for acquiring state qualifying times by netting three state times in his five events — 50 Backstroke (41.97), 50 Free (33.39), and the 200 Free (2:42.72). His biggest improvement came in the 200 Individual Medley where Jack’s swim of 3:12.56 is an HIAA time and a 15.93 improvement over his previous swim.
Kate Machorek, 11, acquired a state time in the 200 Free where she stopped the clock at 2:20.48, a 5.27 improvement over her seeded time. That was also her best event in her perfect meet where she posted first finishes in all five events.
“It was a great way to start the summer,” said SKA coach Billy Brown. “We are excited for the championship season coming with the Senior Championship on O‘ahu this weekend and the State Championships on Maui in July.”
Overall, SKA swimmers posted six swimmers nailing state times and eight swimmers getting perfect meets by earning personal best times in all of the events they swam.
Matthew Vickers, 7, was in his first swim meet, participating in four events.
Bryson Baligad, 11, posted a perfect meet with five first finishes and improvements in all five swims, acquiring a state time in the 50 Breaststroke where he posted a 37.94, an improvement of 2.49. His best event came in the 200 IM (2:34.86) where he improved 16.37.
Ka‘eo Kruse, 11, also posted a perfect meet, acquiring a state time in the 50 Backstroke (36.42), an improvement of 0.30 over his seeded time.
Tyler Keith, 12, finished with a near-perfect meet, posting improvements in three of his four events. His big feat was acquiring a state time in the 100 Free (1:06.34), an improvement of 2.33 over his seeded time in a second-place finish at the pool.
Justin White, 11, also posting a near-perfect meet with improvements in three of his four events, attained a state time in the 100 Free (1:05.75), an improvement of 3.51 over his previous swim.
Athena Alexander, 9, finished with one first finish in her perfect showing. That event was the 50 Fly (53.98) where she posted a 7.09 improvement. Her biggest accomplishment came in the 50 Breast (59.82) where she posted an 11.52 improvement.
Jennifer Blum, 10, also walked off with one gold coming in the 100 Free (1:41.07), her first time in that event.
Evan Hamamoto, 14, finished with a perfect meet, posting HIAA times in all four of his first-finish events. His biggest achievement came in the 200 Fly (2:31.99) where he posted a 10.87 improvement.
Harley-lyn Kaeo, 11, also posted a perfect meet, finishing first in all but one event and getting a big 16.27 improvement in the 100 IM (1:32.37). She also posted a first finish in her first 50 Fly (43.99).
