McKinley Kim of Kaua‘i died May 21, 2009, at Maluhia Hospital in Honolulu at age 97. Born Aug. 7, 1911, on Kaua‘i, he was a heavy equipment operator with Kaua‘i County.
He is survived by his son, Onassis Kim; step-sons, Henry Kapali, Alan Kapali, Jonathan Duarte, Bernard Duarte Jr.; daughter, Lovey Higa; step-daughter, Maile Duarte Rego; sister, Beverly Kanekua; brother, Dr. William Kim; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation from 9-11 a.m., June 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kapa‘a. Service to follow at 11 a.m.; burial at 1 p.m. at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Aloha attire suggested.

Madeline “Aunty Lena” Torres of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu, died June 8, 2009 at Hale Nani at age 82. She was born on March 10, 1927, in Kalaupapa, Moloka‘i.
She was preceded in death by husband Cresenciano Torres and daughters Luana (Elliott) Rosa and Elizabeth Torres.
She is survived by sons Alvin Travens and Angelo Batin Jr.; daughters Barbara (Butch) Diehl, Yolanda (David-Kawika) Cutcher, Sunday (Thomas) Dargel, Christine (Jaime) Orozco; sister Philomena Eblacas, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service is pending.
