Just one event remains for the Hard Rock Cafe Surf Series following the conclusion of event number 10 at Kaka‘ako, Oahu, recently.
Time is running out for Hawai‘i’s top amateurs to qualify for the 2009 State Championships to be held at Ala Moana Bowls in June, according to a press release.
The final qualifying event will be held at Kewalo’s on O‘ahu next Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3. Entries are still open for all divisions.
Between six and nine surfers from each division of the Hawai‘i Surfing Association (HSA) Hard Rock Cafe Series on O‘ahu will qualify for the state championship.
Those on the cusp include newly crowned Quiksilver ISA U16 World Junior Champion Keanu Asing, Waimanalo’s Ha‘a Aikau, and super-charged North Shore menehune Makana Pang and Finn McGill.
Among those who solidified their places at the state championships with strong performances at Kaka‘ako were Kainoa Haas, who won the Junior division; Kalani David, who won the Menehune 2A division; and Makaha’s Micah Liana, 11, who qualified in three divisions: standup paddle surfing, bodyboarding and longboarding.
