Bobby Barros, president of the Garden Island Racing Association, has been leading more than 50 volunteers to get the Mana Raceway ready for Mar. 7.
That is the date of the first drag race for the 2009 season, and according to a release from GIRA, the 14-member Board has been revving engines and burning rubber on mowers, weed whackers, backhoes and hammers in preparation for the new season.
Gates open at 11 a.m. for racers and at noon for fans and spectators.
On tap for the racing schedule are record-holding dragsters, door slammers, muscle cars, motorcycles, street and sport compact cars and Jr. Dragsters powered by young drivers eight to 16 years old.
Tech inspection starts at 11 a.m. and continues through 2 p.m., followed by timed trials. Bracket racing eliminations start at 7 p.m.
Admission is $12 for adults. Children 12 years old and under are free.
Kaua‘i Raceway Park is located on Kaumualii Highway approximately 28 miles west of Lihu‘e. Look for the racing flags on the left just after Mile Marker 28.
