The high school boys are gone from the Americans of Japanese Ancestry baseball fields.
That signals the start of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation baseball season with two events planned for this weekend.
According to Aaron Uyeda, one of the coaches for the Kaua‘i High School program, the defending KIF champions and the state Division II champions, the Red Raiders will host its annual Red-and-White game this Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at the Vidinha Stadium complex.
Uyeda said the morning will be devoted to clinics where the players work with three community programs to help the youth baseball players.
“We’ve invited teams from the Lihu‘e Baseball League, Koloa and Kalaheo for this clinic,” Uyeda said.
Following that, baseball will get under way with the Red-and-White matchups.
On Monday, the President’s Day holiday, Waimea High School will host its Blue-and-White games, a double-header event, at the Hanapepe Stadium.
For a $10 donation, baseball fans will be treated to a beef stew lunch, a lucky number opportunity as well as entry to the double-header.
The first game in the Blue-and-White matchup will start at 10 a.m. followed by the nightcap starting at 1 p.m.
Kaua‘i baseball fans will see action at the Waimea High School Invitational pre-season tournament that is scheduled for Feb. 26-28 at both the Waimea High School field and at Hanapepe Stadium.
The first KIF baseball game is scheduled for Mar. 7 when the Kapa‘a Warriors travel to the Waimea High School field for a double-header.
First pitch goes off at 10 a.m. with the second game following 30 minutes following the completion of Game 1.
