LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a High School boys soccer team has received the No. 4 seed for Division II at the JN Automotive Boys Soccer state championships that open Wednesday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park on O‘ahu.
According to an e-mail from Keith Amemiya, director of the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association, that means the Kapa‘a boys soccer team will enjoy a bye when the tournament opens Wednesday.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champions will meet the winner of the Kailua-Makua Lani match in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Warriors play at 3 p.m., Thursday.
Seabury Hall, the Maui Interscholastic Federation champions, get the top seed for Division II followed by Hawai‘i Prep in the No. 2 seed. Waialua of the O‘ahu Interscholastic Federation gets the No. 3 seed.
Other teams competing in Division II include McKinley, Honoka‘a, Radford, Kamehameha-Hawai‘i, Mid-Pacific, last year’s defending champions, and Konawaena.
Iolani gets the No. 1 seed for the Division 1 competition followed by Mililani in the No. 2 seed spot. Kealakehe of the Big Island is the No. 3 seed and Kamehameha-Maui is the No. 4 seed in the Division I competition.
The Kapa‘a boys soccer team is headed by coaches Kevin Cram, Todd Fuerte and Mark Sassone.
Team members include Dereyn Tamashiro, Bradley Heiser, Randolf Burns, Taylor Langstaff, Josh Gerhard, Torren Kimura, Caleb Sarsona, Lowen Gonsalez, Christian Taniguchi, Ikaika Fuerte, Glenn Miguel, Luther Yam, BJ Melchor, Joseph Velasco, Alex LaMadrid, Nis Nissen, Kaisen Carrillo, Tyler Cram and Hunter Hudson.
