KILAUEA — The Kilauea man involved in a stand-off with police at his Oka Place home Monday afternoon has been identified as 20-year-old Shannon Mahoney.
Mahoney was arrested and charged with second degree arson for starting an intentional fire on the kitchen stove, a county news release said Tuesday.
Currently, he is in police cellblock awaiting a preliminary hearing date.
Mahoney had barricaded himself in his residence when police arrived Monday afternoon.
During the incident, police considered Mahoney to be a threat to himself and others nearby.
Surrounding neighbors were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
After negotiating for more than three hours with Mahoney, police officers placed him in protective custody at around 7:30 p.m.
He was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries and later taken to police cellblock.
