LIHU‘E — Gerry Rayray scored two goals — one in the first half and his final in the second — to lead the Kaua‘i High School Red Raiders to a 3-1 win over Waimea’s Menehune in the final home game at Vidinha Stadium yesterday.
Micah Acquias scored in the 61st minute to end its season at home on a high note. Kapa‘a High School and Kaua‘i will close out the season on Saturday with the final game of the regular season. Kapa‘a, which had already clinched the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation championship will then move on to the post-season state championship tournament on Oa‘hu.
Varsity girls:
Kaua‘i 8, Waimea 0
Brandi Gomes scored three goals, Ashlyn Ubongen and Skye Shimabukuro scored two each, Wailana Borrero scored in the final minutes and the Kaua‘i Lady Red Raiders completed another shut out of Waimea, 8-0.
The undefeated Red Raiders clinched the KIF championship and finish up their regular season on Saturday against Kapa‘a, but both teams will be heading to the state championship tournament, according to the most recent winter league representation report from the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association.
