LIHU‘E — After holding Lihu‘e to just two hits last week, Hanapepe gave up six runs in two innings to suffer its first season loss, 9-2 at the hands of Makaweli at Hanapepe Stadium.
Kalaheo continued its winning ways from last week to hand Kapa‘a a 19-2 loss in the first of a double-header at Vidinha Stadium, and in the finale, Lihu‘e took an 8-3 win over Waimea in the Americans of Japanese Ancestry baseball league, Sunday.
Makaweli’s Ikaika Pezario scored twice and had an RBI in the first two innings as Makaweli piled up six runs on just two hits.
The Rivermen gave up eight walks in that same two innings, one of which scored a run in the second inning and four straight walks in the opening frame.
Pezario (1-3) finished the day with 3 RBI followed by Brenden Hew (1-4) and Sean Jardin (2-4) notching 2 RBI apiece. Leighton Otoman (1-3, double) finished with an RBI coming on a bases-loaded walk in the second inning. Jason Miyazaki (1-4) notched an RBI as Makaweli finished with six hits in the win.
Hanapepe outhit Makaweli with scattered seven hits chalked up by Justin Ganaden, Brock Santiago, Kelly Robinson, Keith Nonaka, Scott Yamase, Mike Yaris and Quentin Natividad.
Keola McCallum (2-4), Marcus Oketani (2-3) and Kainoa Santos (3-5) each marked two hits apiece in Kalaheo’s win. Kaina McCallum, Lannon Kashima-Rice, Brandon Ishibashi, Zoom Bukoski and Troy Kaneshiro each singled.
Keola McCallum marked 6 RBI, Oketani and Kaina marked 3 RBI each with Santos, Kaleo Saiki (1-2, double), Ishibashi, Bukoski, Kaneshiro and Aranio netting an RBI each.
Allen Mundon went 3-3 with a double and a single to lead the Kapa‘a bats. Waylen Kupihea singled and had an RBI. Torio Kawaihau, Brady Tokuda, Nappy Hirokane, Ryan Silva and Shane Matsumura each singled.
Waimea’s Kahai Hosaka tied the game, 3-3 in the fourth inning, scoring on a Dylan Ishihara RBI sac fly, but Lihu‘e came back with five runs in the fifth en route to its win.
Bobby Texeira (2-3) had the hot bat for Lihu‘e with a pair of singles and 4 RBI. Darran Sakai (2-4) followed with Ryden Domingsel, Mikey Cardinez, Derrick Lacaden, Micah Hee, Curtis Sadamitsu and Dan Tanimoto singling. Cardinez and Hee also marked an RBI apiece.
Kalani Fernandez went 4-5 with an RBI to lead the Waimea hitting. Liko Pereira followed with three singles and an RBI with Kevin Agena getting two singles in the game.
Kahai Hosaka, Ahren Kaneshiro, Kelsey Morikawa and Ishihara each singled with Ishihara also marking an RBI.
