HANAPEPE — Dakota Barnett scored her first goal after her attempt to actually cross to a teammate. Barnett, on the right side, passed over the head of teammate Megan Souza and as it came right back her way, she tapped it into the nearside corner for her first of three games on the night.
Her second came off an assist from Zari Fernandez to bring the Lady Warriors up 2-0 at the half.
Barnett’s three goals and singles from Seri Niimi-Burch, Fernandez and Kai Zirker gave Kapa‘a a 6-0 victory over Waimea at Hanapepe Stadium.
Boys varsity: Kapa‘a 5, Waimea 0
Ikaika Fuerte scored a pair of goals, Caleb Sarson and Kaisen Carrillo scored one goal apiece, Glen Miguel curved in an unassisted corner kick for a goal and the undefeated Kapa‘a High School boys soccer team clinched another Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation title.
After last year’s KIF title, the Warriors went on the play in the first-ever Division II state title match against the Owl of Mid-Pacific Institute. This year, after a 0-0 season-opening tie against Waimea, the Warriors (6-0-1) have so far gone undefeated with one more game to play before heading to the state championships on O‘ahu.
Sarsona scored off an assist from Fuerte in the early minutes of the match, then Sarsona returned the favor and assisted Fuerte’s first goal of the night.
Fuerte got his second minutes later off an assist from Randolph Burns. Miguel’s big boot from the left corner floated in the wind over the outstretched hands of Waimea’s goalkeeper Cody Owen and in the back corner pocket to close the half at 4-0.
Carrillo drew Waimea’s second-half goalkeeper Quinn Gonsalves out from in front of the net and took a shot. Waimea’s Sean Inouye was there to clear it out, but it went right back to Carrillo who put it in on the second attempt.
Junior varsity girls: Kapa‘a 3, Waimea 0
Kapa‘a’s girls junior varsity team got a morning shutout victory at Hanapepe Stadium, beating Waimea 3-0. All goals were scored by Katelyn Kaona.
Junior varsity boys: Waimea 2, Kapa‘a 0
Ken Morikawa and Caleb Licke led the Menehune junior varsity boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Kapa‘a.

Awol Owen and Michael Chamberlain scored a goal each and Island School Voyagers beat the Raiders 2-0 at Vidinha Stadium yesterday.
