HONOLULU — Hawai‘i’s youngest golf professional, Tadd Fujikawa, will be sponsored by Aloha Petroleum, Ltd. for a second year, it was announced this week.
Aloha Petroleum was Fujikawa’s first corporate sponsor.
Fujikawa said Aloha Petroleum’s continuing sponsorship is making it possible for him to travel to tournaments and play against the best competition.
“This is wonderful news for me,” Fujikawa said. “Aloha Petroleum’s support allows me to continue to develop my game against top golfers around the world, on the Mainland, in Japan and Europe. And Aloha’s support for Hawai‘i Junior Golf is making it so other young golfers can also learn to play and, maybe, become professionals like me.”
At the 2007 Sony Open, Fujikawa of Moanalua became the youngest player in a half century to make the cut at a PGA Tour event. Fujikawa turned pro in July 2007, because, as an amateur, he could not afford to travel to tournaments to compete against top talent.
His first victory as a professional came in April 2008, when he became the youngest golfer ever to win the Mid-Pacific Open.
