KEALIA — The 15-year-old girl who was hit by a pick-up truck Monday evening at Kealia remains in critical condition at The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu, a county news release states.
The teen was crossing Kuhio Highway at the Mailihuna Road junction heading for the multi-use path at around 6:24 p.m. when she was struck by a northbound Toyota pick-up truck.
The girl sustained serious injuries and was taken to Wilcox Hospital by ambulance. She was later airlifted to The Queen’s Medical Center for further treatment.
Traffic on Kuhio Highway was stopped in both directions for about 1.5 hours following the accident.
Police said that alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident.
According to KPD, no charges have been filed against the driver of the pick-up truck, county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said yesterday.
