Ray “Coach Mac” Pigott has been selected as the Kaua‘i Martial Artist of the Year by the Kaua‘i Martial Arts Web site.
According to the site, each year the selection is difficult, but Pigott was selected based on his personal performance in martial arts where he won a world championship in Jiu Jitsu in his division.
Pigott also sets the standard outside the mat with his tireless and persistent effort to bring wrestling to Kaua‘i as well as his community service in grappling, the Web site states.
The first wrestling club on Kaua‘i was formed by Pigott and more recently, concluded meetings with the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation that makes high school wrestling a step closer to reality.
Pigott has hosted free grappling tournaments and clinics in the past, and will host the first FILA submission wrestling gi tournament in addition to no gi and wrestling.
