Red Raider ladies open state bid against Castle Wednesday

Kaua‘i High School will play Castle High School starting at 5 p.m., Wednesday.

The announcement was made as seedings for the New City Nissan Girls Volleyball State Championships were announced yesterday.

The Red Raider women, who thrilled fans with a come-from-behind win against Waimea to clinch the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation title last week, will be playing at Farrington High School.

The winner of that matchup will meet Division II top seed Hawai‘i Baptist, Thursday starting at 7 p.m., also at Farrington High School.

Joining the Kaua‘i High School and Castle girls in Division II, Seabury Hall, Kailua, Hawai‘i Prep, University, Word of Life and Honoka‘a round out the Division II championship bracket.

Following Hawai‘i Baptist, Molokai received the No. 2 seed followed by Kapolei and Hilo as the third and fourth seed, respectively.

Kamehameha-Kapalama received the top seed for Division I followed by Kahuku as the No. 2 seed. Waiakea and Kamehameha-Maui round out the seeding at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

Teams playing in the Division I championship bracket include Kamehameha-Hawai‘i, Farrington, Moanalua, Aiea, Baldwin, Mililani, Punahou and McKinley.

The state championships for both Division I and II will play Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center on the University of Hawai‘i campus in Manoa.

Third place for Division II will start at 3 p.m. Third place for Division I will start at 4:30 p.m. and the championship for Division II serving up at 6 p.m. The Division I championship will start at 8 p.m.
