“The County is transitioning to the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephone system, which uses network connectivity to make calls. This will result in tremendous cost-savings to the County and ultimately provide better service to our residents,” said Finance Director Wallace Rezentes Jr., according to a press release.
He noted that the county will no longer have to pay monthly fees to the telephone company or incur installation costs when an employee moves to a different office, and support services for the VoIP phones will be handled internally by Information Technology (IT) personnel.
By the end of the year, Rezentes added, the rest of the county offices in the Lihu‘e Civic Center are expected to convert to the VoIP telephone system.
