The 2008 Senor Frogs Sandy Beach Pro went off without a hitch on July 5 and 6 with Kaua‘i’s Travis Smith and David Hubbard coming up with big wins.
Over 80 competitors came out to test their skills at Half Point, the world-famous reef break on O‘ahu’s South Shore.
Both days started with amateur rounds and many amazing rides from newcomers like Alex Brown, Matthew Holtzman, Bubu Casamerio and more.
The 13-18 Amateur division was won when Brown narrowed out his Kaua‘i friend Holtzman by two points. Trevor Cam and Alan Lamphere followed up with third and fourth, respectively, in the final.
The finals of the Open Amateur saw Kaua‘i’s Travis Smith come out on top of his O‘ahu competitors Reis Yonherio, J.B. Hillen and Kainoa Behasa.
Noah Murray, also of Kaua‘i, landed a stand-up air to win his final in the Stand-up division.
Perhaps the most sought after title to the Senor Frogs Sandy Beach Pro was the Men’s Pro division.
Local favorites and Kaua‘i brothers Jeff and Dave Hubbard flew in overnight from Australia to get through customs only 40 minutes prior to their heats just to make it to the event. Not only did the Hubbard brothers fit this competition into their schedules, they put on a major show in the water. Dave won the entire event with two barrel riders in the final to roll spin combos. Jacob Romero finished second and Paul Benco finished third.
