Kane‘ohe’s Dean Wilson shot a 1-under 69 yesterday and is four shots off of the leader Steve Marino (65) in the AT&T National at the Congressional Course in Bethesda, Md.
The Castle High School graduate bogeyed the second hole but carded three birdies on his front nine to make the turn at 2 under. Wilson suffered a setback when he double-bogeyed the par-4 11th. He got a birdie on the 15th to put him back up and three staight pars put him at 69.
O‘ahu’s other golfer in the mix, Parker McLachlin, is sitting seven shots off the lead, shooting a 1-over 71 after Round 1. McLachlin had a rough start with two consecutive bogeys — on the second and third holes. The Punahou grad and former state champion got help from a birdie on the eighth to bring him to 1 over at the turn.
He held that score, after two bogeys and two birdies, until coming into the clubhouse.
McLachlin will tee off at 7:40 a.m. HST today with Matt Kuchar and Cliff Kresge on the tenth tee.
Wilson tees off at 2 a.m. HST with Charles Howell III and this year’s Shell Houston Open winner Johnson Wagner on the first tee.
