KAPA‘A — Eleven Kapa‘a Elementary School students turned recess into an opportunity to earn movie passes.
According to Dan Spriggs, interim vice principal, about 40 students in the fourth and fifth grade were involved in a Dolphin Basketball Shootout which took place during recess on May 28 and June 2.
The event involved student shooting from designated spots around the rim with each student getting 10 shots at the hoop.
When the dust settled, there were first, second and third prizes for boys and girls in each of the grades involved.
Maelea DeNigris and Amber Weiss finished in a tie for first in the fourth-grade girls division with each shooter receiving three movie passes, a $15 value.
Gabriel Sifuentes topped the fourth-grade boys and earned three movie passes. Mosese Fifita and Braxton Bridges-Basuel were the second, third-place winners for the fourth-grade boys, respectively.
Fifita got two movie passes and Bridges-Basuel pocketed one movie pass for his efforts.
Karlee Palmeira topped the fifth grade girls followed by Morea Rohlfs and Shanel Bautista.
Tyler Carvalho had the hot hand for the fifth-grade boys followed by Micah Morales and Samson Peato.
