HONOLULU — The University of Hawai‘i Rainbow baseball team (26-27, 18-14 WAC) closed out its Western Athletic Conference regular season schedule last week, and will now host Utah Valley for a three-game, non-conference series to end the regular season.
The Rainbows split a high-scoring series at New Mexico State last week, winning the two games of the doubleheader on Saturday, May 10, 17-10 and 15-14. It marked only the 10th time that UH had posted 15-plus runs in back-to-back games and the 10th time that the ‘Bows had posted 30-plus runs in a doubleheader.
Earlier this week, outfielder Brandon Haislet earned WAC Player of the Week Honors for the week of May 5 through 11, the first of his career and the first for a UH hitter this week.
Haislet, a senior from Sacramento, Calif. (Cosumnes River College), hit .647 (11-for-17) with 12 RBI, a home run, two doubles and eight runs scored in Hawai‘i’s split at New Mexico State. In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Haislet went 5-for-5 at the plate with a career-high seven RBI, three runs, a home run and a double. He then went 4-for-5 with three RBI and four runs in the nightcap. Haislet had a .941 slugging percentage on the weekend and a .714 on base percentage.
The centerfielder is now batting .376 with team-highs in 39 RBI, 47 runs, five home runs and nine stolen bases, adding 17 doubles and a triple. In WAC play, Haislet finished with a batting average of .427, 34 runs, 33 RBI, 14 doubles, one triple and three home runs.
Fresno State pitcher Jason Breckley was given the WAC Pitcher of the Week honor.
