USTRC this weekend
The Sixth Annual Kauai Classic United States Team Roping Championship begins at 10 a.m., tomorrow, at the CJM Country Stables arena in Po‘ipu and continues over the weekend with a start time of 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Headers and heelers from the Mainland join up with local team ropers for a go at the trophy saddles and award buckles.
Admission is free. The public is welcome to enjoy the event, mingle with the cowboys and cowgirls and cheer for their favorite teams.

County hosts Age Group meets
The County of Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation will be coordinating the annual 2008 Age Group Track Meet this coming weekend at Vidinha Stadium. On Saturday, elementary school children between the ages of 6 to 10 years old are scheduled to participate.
On Sunday, children in the middle school division between the ages of 11 to 13 years old will compete.
The track meet will start at 1 p.m. on both days.
Events will include the 50 Meter Dash, 100 Meter Dash, Standing Broad Jump, Softball Throw, 75 Meter Dash, 200 Meter Dash, 400 Meter Run and 800 Meter Run and relays. Registration forms are available at all public schools, neighborhood centers and at some private schools. Participants can register and enter on the day of the event.
Awards will go to the top school achieving the most points, as well as individual medals and ribbons.

Pop Warner holds softball tourney and spring fest
The Pop Warner football league has announced its First Annual KPWL Softball Tournament and Spring Festival for May 16 through 18 at the Koloa Ball Park.
Each year every Pop Warner Association pays high assessment fees and for the first time all of the associations are coming together to raise funds to help keep the cost down for the participants. Funds from this event will help cover these fees.
The festival will close the tournament on May 18.
