Pinetrees Longboard Classic rescheduled
by The Garden Island
The 30th Annual Pinetrees Longboard Classic has been rescheduled for April 26 and 27 in Hanalei.
The contest, which began in 1975 and has been postponed a few times for various reasons, has become somewhat of a family affair and will feature a special ‘ohana division.
The two-day contest is free and open to the public. No times have been announced as of press time.
These are the rescheduled dates for the event — it was originally planned for earlier but was postponed so most can attend this Sunday’s tribute in Hanalei for the late surfer Keoni Lucas, who died in a crash in California in March. The Lucas family was a vital part of the North Shore surfing scene which warranted the postponement.
Entry forms can be found at any local surf shop around the island.
Body boarders hold pro/am event
Kauai Bodyboarding Association Hawaii division along with the United States Bodyboarding Association national division will hold a pro/am event competition on Saturday, May 31st at Shipwreck’s Beach near the Grand Hyatt Resort
Everyone is invited to this fundraiser. Donations for lau-lau and highlighting the taro burger, rice, macaroni salad plate lunch with juice, shave ice vendor,
T-shirts or other table or catalog items will be made available.
Funds will be used with possible grant support, to further promote the sport to its international Bodyboarding Association counterpart level, and eventually, activating a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation school program similar to outrigger canoe paddling, and or outreach to all disabled ‘ohana providing regular body boarding clinics.
