Jordan Buster pitched all seven innings, allowing only two hits and Kaua‘i High School shut out Waimea High School 7-0 yesterday at Vidinha Stadium.
The Red Raiders were up five runs, by the fifth inning, and the final two runs, by Aaron Soong and Andrew Renaud, scored on wild pitches in the bottom of the sixth.
Soong hit straight down the left field line and stretched his single into a double when he beat out the throw and slid into second.
Renaud got base with a bunt, beating out the throw to first.
Soong finished 2-for-2, was hit by a pitch and walked, scored three runs and hit an RBI. Renaud was 2-for-3, with two runs scored and Trent Allianic was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Lannan Rice-Kashima entered the game as the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation’s leading hitter at .333, but finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Buster received his second win in Round 2, his fourth in the regular season. Waimea’s Kelly Batis was handed the loss.
The defending KIF champion Raiders (3-0 Round 2, 7-2 KIF) remain undefeated since the start of the second round, last Saturday.
The next set of games will go on as scheduled starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Hanapepe Stadium when Waimea hosts Kapa‘a High School. It is an ACT testing day, but neither team has any test takers.
