KAPA‘A — The Bruins returned from a two-week break to take both its matches in the Squirts division of the YMCA of Kaua‘i Inline Hockey Association league, over the weekend.
Edward Punua Jr. was the force for the Bruins, scoring two goals and adding an assist for the Bruins’ 5-3 showing over the Sharks in the Friday night matchup.
Punua returned to the rink, Sunday, and finished by scoring seven of the Sharks’ 10 goals in its 10-4 showing over the Sharks.
Eli Leech-Kritchman, playing all around for the teal-shirted Sharks, ended the weekend by scoring all of the Sharks’ goals on solo efforts.
Chanel Tremblay did the goaltending duties for the Bruins on Friday night, finishing with 8 saves on 11 shots. On Sunday, Malia Alonzo found a new leaf in the inline hockey book as she donned the goalkeeper’s armor for the first time, and with the help of Leech-Kritchman’s defensive prowess, finished the day with 20 saves on 30 shots, the petite tender getting applause from both sides of the bench for her efforts.
Josh Lakotas finished with 20 saves on 26 shots Friday ight and ended with 22 saves on 26 shots in the Sunday victory.
Joining Punua in the Friday victory, Shannon Sitzler finished with a goal and an assist and Thor Haugland wrapped up the night with two goals.
Shannon went on to net two goals in Sunday’s win, including a power play shot at the 5:34 mark in the second half.
Jacob Lewis came up with two key goals in the second half, Sunday, to give the Devils its second win of the weekend in the Bantam division matchups. On Friday night, the Devils saw Jacob net five of its eight goals in an 8-4 edge over the Bulls.
Trailing 3-2 at the half when Todd Mayer Green’s Zack Lewis netted a goal at the 35-second mark, Sunday, Jacob came back with his pair of second-half goals to give the Devils a 4-3 edge in a tightly fought defensive slugfest.
Earlier, Matthias Davis netted two first half goals for the Devils, getting an assist from Cydney Sitzler on the first net and Jacob on the second goal.
Cascade Mayer netted the two other TM Green goals.
Daniel Alonzo handled the goalbox duties for the Devils, finishing Friday night’s win with 31 saves on 36 shots, and ending Sunday with 31 saves on 34 shots.
Joining Jacob in the Friday night scoring, Davis finished with a hat trick and an assist with Austin Taylor, the Devils’ defensive specialist, coming up with two assists.
Iki Punua handled the Bulls’ goaltending duties with 35 saves on 43 shots.
On Sunday, Stephanie Steuri finished with 36 saves on 40 shots for the TM Green.
A Mike Goodnight goal with 13 seconds remaining in the half was the pivotal net for the Green team in its 9-8 showing over the Blue team in the Friday night Midget division matchup.
Two quick goals from Tyson Wakayama and Brian McCracken put the Blue up 2-0 in the first five minutes of play before the Green honed its offense.
Trevor McCracken answered for the Green at the 13:86 mark followed by a goal from Mika Gevins at the 10:03 mark before Goodnight broke the 2-2 stalemate going into the half.
Both teams returned to net six goals each in the second half with Gevins adding three more goals and Trevor adding a goal and two assists in the second half.
Cydney and Zachery Rodriguez rounded out the Green showing.
Pierce Int-Hout came alive to lead the Blue’s second-half showing with five goals followed by Brian adding a goal. Wakayama finished the outing with a goal and four assists.
Greg Balmores, tending for the Blue, finished with 23 saves on 32 shots while Jaime Pablo, the Green’s goalkeeper, ended the night with 33 saves on 41 shots.
