Asako Shibata
Asako “Asa” Shibata of Lihu‘e died on April 3, 2008, at her home in Lihu‘e at the age of 84. Born on Oct. 18, 1923, in California, she was a bookkeeper.
She is survived by husband Henry Shibata of Lihu‘e, daughter Janis (Garth) Shibata-Rodrigues of California, sister Ihoko (Frank) Fukuhara of California, and grandson Wesley Rodrigues of California.
Memorial services will be celebrated at noon on Friday, April 11, at Kapa‘a All Saints Church. Casual attire is suggested.

Ruth Kuwabe
Ruth Ayano Kuwabe of Waimea passed away at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 95. Born on Dec. 29, 1912, in Makaweli, she was a self-employed seamstress.
She is survived by niece Carol Kanna; nephews Kunio Kuwabe and Yoshibo Kuwabe; grandnephews Dr. Stanwood (Patrice) Kanna, Robert (Nancy) Kanna and George (Sharlyn) Kanna; grandnieces Crystal (Jeff) Egusa, Dr. Lauren (Rick) Bundschuh, Jacqueline Kanna and Holly (Steve) Araki.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, at Waimea Higashi Hongwanji. Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. The family requests no koden. Contributions may be made to Waimea Higashi Hongwanji and Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital LTC.

Nora Tada
Nora Shizuko Tada of Lihu‘e died on April 2, 2008, at her home in Lihu‘e at the age of 87. Born on April 17, 1920, in Lihu‘e, she was a hairdresser.
She is survived by son Alan Tada of Lihu‘e; daughter Patricia Ann (William) Yamauchi of O‘ahu; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Flora Cox of Lihu‘e and Helen Okamoto of Utah.
Viewing will be held at noon on Sunday, April 6, at Lihu‘e Christian Church. Memorial services will begin at 1 p.m. Inurnment to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.

Manuel Santos Sr.
Manuel Lawrence Santos Sr. of Lawa‘i passed away on April 4, 2008, at the age of 77. Born on May 19, 1930, in Waimea, he was an independent contractor.
He was preceded in death by sister Lillian Medeiros.
He is survived by children Manuel Santos Jr., Beatrice (Allen) Shimizu, Edna (Dickie) Santos, Betty Lou Santos, John Santos, Kenneth Santos, Bobby Santos, Barbara (Albert) Silva, Clyde Santos, Darlene (Bernard) Butay and Ethel Santos; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Bella (John) Ilalaole, Kenneth (Louise) Santos, Louise (Dickie) Silva and Betty (Richard) Gomes.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service at 10 a.m. Family request leis and cut flowers only.

Joseph Garban
Joseph Garban of Honaunau died on March 17, 2008, at Kona Community Hospital. Born on Dec. 27, 1927, in Ka‘u, he retired as a coffee farmer.
He is survived by son Manuel Clarabal; daughter Christine Costales (Randal); brothers Laureno Galban, Pete Galban, Mel Amion, Jimmy Amion (Barbara), and Albert Amion; sisters Sulidad A. Meria and Helen Vierenes (Pete); four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at Immaculate Conception Church in Holualoa. Memorial service begins at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow at Kona Memorial Cemetery. Reception at Immaculate Conception Church following services.
