HANAPEPE — Pinch-hitter Travis Koga hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning and the Kaua‘i High School Red Raiders defeated the Waimea High School Menehune 11-1, yesterday, at Hanapepe Stadium.
The Raiders exploded early in the first inning getting off seven hits and scoring seven runs. The Raiders were at bat for approximately 45 minutes before Waimea got its turn to bat.
Starting pitcher Trent Allianic was awarded the win, striking out eight and finishing 1-for-1 with a double and one RBI.
Schyler Arakaki had two hits, with a single and a double and three RBI. Dustin Prem had three hits — two singles and a double — scored twice and had one RBI. Rysen Sakamoto finished 2-for-3 and Jonathan Gebauer was 1-for-2 with a double.
Chris Kaiakapu, who started the game for Waimea, was strapped with the loss. He pitched the first part of the first inning, then Kelly Batis came in relief.
Batis hit one single and struck out four. Batis and Allianic pitched two hitless innings each.
So far in the regular season, Allianic has pitched 10 innings over two games and struck out 18 total.
The defending Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion Raiders (3-0) are off this Saturday, while the Menehune (0-1) travel to Kapa‘a to play the Warriors (0-2) of Kapa‘a High School.
The double header starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Ron Martin Field.
