Kaua‘i 2, Kapa‘a 1 – Trent Allianic struck out 10 batters in five innings in Game 2 of yesterday’s season-opening double header at Vidinha Stadium. Kaua‘i High School defeated Kapa‘a High School 2-1.
Kapa‘a struck first when Cody Goias scored off a ground ball to center. The Warriors led through to the sixth inning.
That’s when Kaua‘i’s catcher Lanan Rice-Kashima scored the tying run on an error from second base.
In the seventh, Allianic grounded through to center and advanced all the way to third on a Kapa‘a error. Kapa‘a then intentionally walked Skyler Arakaki and Dalston Miyasato to load the bases.
A wild pitch got away from catcher Wes Abalos and headed to the back board, and as Allianic rushed for home, Kapa‘a pitcher Travis Shigeta raced to home plate and made it in time for the out to end the inning.
Kaua‘i got another hit in the final inning, and Kapa‘a intentionally walked another set of batters to load the bases, bringing shortstop Andrew Renaud to the plate.
Relief pitcher Weston Moniz unintentionally walked Renaud which brought in the game-winning run.
Allianic finished 1-for-4, Rice-Kashima went 2-for-2 and Kaylen Wakumoto went 1-for-2 with a walk.
Moniz was strapped with the loss. Shigeta was w-for-3, Goias was 1-for-3 with a double and Kysen Lopez was 1-for-3.

Jordan Buster pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out five in Kaua‘i’s 1-0 morning win over Kapa‘a.
Wakumoto went-2-for-2 and Rice-Kashima finished 1-for-2.
For the Warriors, Goias pitched six innings and struck out six. Lopez finished 1-for-3.
Randall Jacinto finished 1-for-2.
