WAIMEA — Makani Duhaylongsod struck out five in Mililani High School’s 8-0 shut out of Waimea High School yesterday in the preseason Waimea Softball Invitational at the Waimea Canyon Park.
Kristi Oshiro led the defending O‘ahu Interscholastic Association champions in hitting, finishing 2-for-3.
Waimea was able to come up with three hits from Marie-Beth Watanabe, Kelsie Igne and Brandee Matsushima.
Mililani 6, Kaua‘i 1
Earlier in the day, Mililani held Kaua‘i High School also to only three hits. Those came from Jori Jasper, Jessica Iwata and Krystal Ijima. Wailana Borrero scored on Ijima’s RBI.
Mililani sits at 2-0 lead in the three-day invitational. No additional statistics were reported.
Kapa‘a 5,
Kamehameha School Hawai‘i 3
Time was on Kapa‘a High School’s side yesterday in its first of two games.
By game’s end, both teams thought the final score was 6-5 Kamehameha. But because of the time rule, Kapa‘a, who was slated as the home team, did not get to finish its half of the sixth inning. The game was then decided by the score by the end of the fifth inning.
Kapa‘a’s Melina Obar was awarded the win, pitching all innings without walking a single batter and striking out two.
Leeana Baltazar went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Leilani Laranio went 1-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI. Lehua McCabe was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Lokelani Manaku sacrifice flied out to center and scored Jocelyn Enriques.
Kamehameha struck first with its first batter Kayla Costales scoring in the first inning.
Ashlee Kalauli finished 2-for-2 and Joelle Cabasa went 2-for-3. Costales and Kayla McCartney both finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Pitcher Megan Waiki pitched all innings striking out two and walking six. In hitting, Waiki went 1-for-3.
Campbell 6, Kapa‘a 1
Campbell’s Chand Baligaui was 1-for-1 for a double and RBI in yesterday’s 6-1 win over Kapa‘a. Bre Patton pitched all innings, striking out five and walking five and finished 1-for-2 with an RBI. Ana Yamaguchi went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Nicole Arata was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Coreen Pantohan went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Kapa‘a’s Hanalei Gomes finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Waimea 13, Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i 8
Igne hit a three-run home run yesterday and finished 2-for-3 in Waimea’s 13-8 win over Kamehameha. Waimea’s Shelly Koerte got the win despite walking seven batters.
Kamehameha’s Tabitha Esperama went 3-for-3 to lead the Warriors.
Campbell 10, Kaua‘i 1
Manuma held Kaua‘i to three hits in Campbell’s 10-1 win yesterday. Garcia led the Tigers with two hits. Manuma, Randi Schoenig and Arata had one hit each.
Kaua‘i’s Borrero pitched for the Red Raiders and allowed five hits. Borrero, Iwata and Ijima had one hit each.
