KAPA‘A — Edward Punua Jr. finished with a second-half hat trick to lead the Bruins to a weekend sweep over the Sharks.
With both teams arriving late Sunday, YMCA of Kaua‘i Inline Hockey League officials cut eight minutes off each half to keep the schedule flowing.
Punua’s hat trick led to the Bruins’ 4-1 win over the Sharks Sunday in the Squirts division, and joined Thor Haugland Friday night to score two goals in the Bruins’ 5-3 edge over the Sharks in that matchup.
Jacob Lewis was a scoring machine Sunday, netting four goals to lead the Devils’ effort. Unfortunately, that effort fell short as the Todd Mayer Green held the Devils to a 6-5 showing.
Lewis finished with a goal in Friday night’s 8-5 win over the Bulls for a split of its weekend series.
Mike Goodnight finished with a hat trick to lead the Blue Midget to a 6-5 edge over the Green Midget Friday night. On Sunday, Cydney Sitzler and Lyle Nemeth each netted a goal as the Blue fell 6-2 to the Green team in the Midget division contests.
Pierce Int-Hout finished with three assists and two goals with Sitzler adding a goal and an assist for the Friday night Blue victory.
Kawai Peahu had two goals and Zack Rodriguez finished with a goal and two assists in the Green’s Friday night effort.
Trevor McCracken, taking a ride as a referee in the Bantam contest Sunday, joined Keala Davis and Bruce Perdue in scoring two goals apiece in the Green’s Sunday win.
Peahu netted a goal with 1:26 showing in the first half, and that proved to be the margin of victory for the TM Green in Sunday’s Bantam matchup. Cascade Mayer finished with two goals and two assists to pace that victory with Peahu finishing with two first-half goals in the defensive slugfest.
Sierra Mayer added a goal and an assist, both coming in the second half, and Ben Steuri added a goal in the TM Green edge.
Goalkeeper Stephanie Steuri finished with 25 saves on 30 shots for the TM Green, while Daniel Alonzo was 25 saves on 31 shots for the Devils.
In the Friday night match, Alonzo finished with 33 saves on 36 shots.
Matthias Davis finished with a hat trick, Friday, but was limited to just one goal Sunday to lead the Devils’ efforts.
Joining Davis on Friday night’s win, Sitzler finished with a goal and an assist, Troy Spears added two goals, Lewis had one goal and Austin Taylor, normally the key Devils’ defender, chalked up a net.
The Bulls got goals from Nemeth, Jean-Luc Tremblay and Prisma Verzosa.
Joining Punua and Haugland on Friday, Victor Sanchez added a goal and Marshal Antony added an assist for the Bruins.
Victor Sanchez finished with a goal and Tyler Lewis added an assist for the Sharks Friday night, and on Sunday, Tyler added a goal along with two goals from Eli Leech-Krichman in the effort.
Bruins’ goalkeeper Josh Lakotas finished with 9 saves on 10 shots Friday, and finished with 21 saves on 24 shots, Sunday.
Iki Punua filled in the goalkeeper’s box for the Sharks on Friday, finishing with 26 saves on 30 shots.
On Sunday, Chanel Tremblay donned the goalkeepers pads for 35 saves on 40 shots.
Penni Taketa, the league’s scorekeeper, said that due to the end of the season coming up, games will be increased to three games on both Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons so the league can start working on forming travel teams.
