Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i boys compete in tournament next week

The unranked Red Raider girls soccer team gave top-ranked Rough Riders a run for their money yesterday as Kaua‘i High School forced Roosevelt High School into a shootout, in the JN Automotive/HHSAA Division II State Soccer Championships.
Roosevelt’s Rachael Domingo scored at the eight-minute mark. Neither team would score a goal until the second half when Kaua‘i’s Brandi Gomes tied the game.
Gomes would score again in the 63rd minute. Three minutes later, Kristin Ho scored for the Riders.
The game was sent to penalty kicks where Roosevelt was able to come out on top to retain it’s No. 1 status and advance to the final. They will face No. 2 Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i today for the title.
Kaua‘i will play Campbell High School in the third place match at 2 p.m. today at the Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Park.
In the consolation round, Honokaa High School beat Kapa‘a High School 1-0.
On the boys side, the state championship tournament starts next week.
Reigning Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys soccer champions of Kapa‘a High School and runner up Kaua‘i High School will go into the tournament unranked.
Both teams will travel to O‘ahu for the tournament which starts on Wednesday.
Kaua‘i will play the Canefires of Christian Liberty from the Big Island at 3 p.m. Wednesday on Field 9.
Kapa‘a will play Tigers of McKinley High School also at 3 p.m. Wednesday, but on Field 10.
The Warriors received their tournament berth by winning its second straight KIF title. The Raiders were awarded the extra berth allotted for Division II.
