Sears at Kukui Grove is phasing out its apparel department and reducing its lease at the mall.
Currently Sears occupies two buildings at the Lihu‘e shopping center — one with electronics and appliances and another with apparel and home fashions. According to Sears Holdings spokeswoman Kim Freely, the store will reduce its lease on the second building from 42,000 square feet to 25,000 square feet.
Freely said Sears will be “enhancing its hard-line” merchandise, but there are no definitive plans yet as to how the apparel space will be utilized.
The shift is expected to be complete by mid-July. The store is currently featuring sales on the entire clothing department.
Kukui Grove Marketing Manager Jonell Kaohelauli‘i declined to comment on expansion plans for the mall, saying no decision has been made yet.
As of press time, there was no word on whether a new retailer had been selected for the vacated portion of the building.
