Nine of the Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics swimmers finished in the top nine at the recent Hawai‘i State Championship Meet in Kihei, Maui.
“I could not be more proud of these SKA swimmers and how they performed at this championship meet,” said SKA Head Coach Greg Davis in a press release.
“Having all nine swimmers place in the top nine in the entire state in one or multiple events is simply amazing.”
Matt Ross paced the SKA delegation with two bronze medals in the 1650 and 1000 meter freestyle events, scoring a total of 19 points in the eight events he swam in.
In the release, Stephanie Rogers, president of the SKA, said eight of the nine swimmers placed and scored in the top eight in the state in one or more events. Jackson Littlefield, 10, finished in ninth place in the 50 meter freestyle event in his first state meet.
Anya Littlefield, Emma Rausch, Meaghan Sims, Tyson Chihara were the SKA swimmers who placed in multiple events.
Bryson Baligad and Kate Machorek, both 10 years old, placed in the top eight and scored points in their first-ever state championship meet.
Baligad finished sixth in the 100 meter butterfly event, dropping more than five seconds while Machorek finished eighth place in the 50 backstroke with a 2.5-second improvement over her previous swim.
Ryann Linthicum finished eighth in the 1650 meter freestyle, swimming the event for the first time in the state meet after moving up to the 13-14 age group.
“This was truly a team effort,” Davis said in the release. “Multiple age groups, medaling, scoring points and swimming lifetime best times is simply all I could ever ask for. This is the third straight state meet where SKA has finished as the top Kaua‘i team.”
SKA finished in 16th place out of 25 teams entered in the state meet.
