The University of Hawai‘i released another 1,000 tickets yesterday for Warrior football season ticket holders who have not yet had the chance to purchase any. Four hundred and eighty nine of those 1,000 were made available exclusively to season ticket holders. The tickets were sold by lottery, not a first-come, first-served basis.
The university’s ticket office will return calls today to finalize ticket purchases.
“We have worked tirelessly to acquire as many Allstate Sugar Bowl tickets as possible to accommodate our football season ticket holders,” Hawai‘i Athletic Director Herman Frazier said in a release. “We’re hopeful that this final offering of tickets will satisfy the needs of most or all of the season ticket holders who were interested in tickets.”
The university is even going the extra mile to “satisfy the needs” of those who were able to purchase tickets will be able to fully cheer on their team.
The university is planning on distributing 30,000 ti leaves, 10,000 fans with the Hawai‘i logo, lei, beads, T-shirts and Hawai‘i buttons to fans attending the bowl game.
“My wife is the excited one,” said Tommy Rita of Kalaheo. “We already have our jerseys and (my wife) sewed a lei, a haku, for my hat, with green and black for UH colors. She has a lei too.”
Aside from going to the game, Rita is excited to celebrate the New Year in New Orleans.
Esther Estes, mother of Warrior defensive back Kenny Estes, started thinking about what to wear last night.
“We were hoping to get shirts made with (Kenny’s) number on them,” she said. “But we do plan on wearing supporter shirts if they can do them for us.”
Estes is also bringing a good luck charm.
“His brother Justin is going to be the good luck charm,” she said. “He wants to go dressed like Vili the Warrior, if he can.”
Fans are being encouraged to wear green at the game. The Warriors face the Bulldogs in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 in New Orleans.
The remaining tickets will be made available tomorrow for season ticket holders in need of additional tickets. For tickets, stop by the Stan Sheriff box office at the university or call 956-4482, -4483 or -4484.
