Sean Kawika Hoe
Sean Kawika Hoe, 37, of Kapa‘a, died Dec. 1, 2007. Sean was born Feb. 4, 1970, in Frederick, Maryland, during his father’s service in the US Army. Sean attended Oma‘o and Kahili Adventist School and graduated from Iolani School on O‘ahu where he explored his passion for knowledge and art. He attended Walla Walla College in Washington and recently returned to school where he was finishing his studies at the University of Hawaii, Kaua‘i campus, in pursuit of a degree in psychology. He wanted to help those struggling with life. Sean will be remembered for many things but mostly for his winning smile, and his curiosity for nature.
He is survived by his parents Raymond E. and Sherry Hoe of Lihu‘e; sisters, Schylar (Peter) Frederick of Flagstaff, Ariz., Chara Hoe (Nadine Naumu) of Wailua; grandparents Ray H. Maas of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Ruby Maas of Hanapepe, and Raymond K.M. and Katherine Hoe of Lawa‘i; uncles Allen K. (Adele) Hoe of O‘ahu and David K. Hoe of O‘ahu; and cousin, Nakoa Hoe of O‘ahu. He was preceded in death by his cousin 1st Lt. Nainoa Hoe. A celebration of his life will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Kapa‘a Seventh-day Adventist Church. The family requests aloha attire and that flowers be omitted.
Linda Kay Lemke
Linda Kay Lemke, of Kapa‘a, died on Nov. 20, 2007, at the age of 52.
She was born on July 12, 1955, in Nebraska and previously worked for Hawaiian Airlines. Linda graduated from Northwest High School in Grand Island, Neb., and attended Kearney State in Nebraska and also Kaua‘i Community College.
She is survived by her husband Paul, sons Nahio and Taylor; brother Mark Taylor of O‘ahu; sister Diana Howard of Palmer, Neb., numerous nieces and nephews.
Linda is predeceased by her parents Eugene and Barbara Taylor.
A celebration of her life will be held on Dec. 15, at St. Catherine Church with visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow. Aloha or casual attire is suggested.

Eleanor Carvalho
Eleanor Leina’ala Carvalho of Kapa‘a died Dec. 6, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 71.
Born in Lihu‘e on Nov. 3, 1936, she was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Stanley M. Carvalho; sons Darryl Kaina Carvalho, Duane Kaleo Carvalho, Destry Kalama (Shaylene) Iseri-Carvalho and Dawson Kaili (Trisha) Carvalho, all of Kapa‘a, Mitch (Trisha) Fanning of Reno, Nevada; six grandchildren, La‘akea and DeShayne’e Iseri-Carvalho, Kaison Carvalho and Kainani Inanod, Elijah and Gabriel Fanning; brothers Stanley M. (Espy) Oana Jr. of Hanama‘ulu, Rossiter K. (Vicki) Oana of Vancouver, Wash., sister Flora (John) Ornellas of Anahola; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Lihue First Church in Lihu‘e. Services will begin at 12:30. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Emily R. Fernandez
Emily R. Fernandez, of Kalaheo, died Dec. 6, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 74.
Born Dec. 23, 1932, in Hawai‘i, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by children Juliet Fernandez, Geraldine (Andy) Reuarin, Rosalie (James) Yamamoto, Joseph (Monique) Fernandez, William (Momi) Fernandez, Anna (Bobby) Rita, George (Chica) Fernandez, Jr., three brothers Frank (Lita) Rita, Joseph Rita, and Alfred (Bobbie) Rita; 28 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa, where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
