Kekaha Pop Warner squads bowl bound

A trio of Kekaha Pop Warner tackle squads leave this evening for California to play against the San Diego Pop Warner teams in this year’s Sun Bowl.

The Kekaha Pop Warner Football Association’s Chargers, Panthers and Seahawk teams will play in the invitational on Dec. 1 at Sweetwater High School. The invitational includes 57 student athletes between the ages of 8 and 15 years old, 21 coaches and staff members and 40 of the association’s supporters. For several of the group going, this is their first opportunity to travel outside of Hawai‘i.

The two associations are both members of the West Conference.

In addition to the games, the group will attend a pre-event at Qualcomm Stadium (where the San Diego Chargers play), Sea World and Disneyland before returning home next week.

The trip was made possible through sponsorships from businesses and organ-izations such as Syngenta Seeds, Big Save, the Shrimp Station, Bobbie’s, the Akamai Employment Agency and M&H Service. Parents, coaches and community members also made generous contributions.

Sherry Camat Emayo coordinated the trip. The head coaches of the Chargers, Panthers and Seahawks are Al Emayo, Cucu Apilado and Leighton Amaki.
