The Western Athletic Conference is one of four conferences in the nation that have two teams with at least 10 wins: Hawai‘i (11-0) and Boise State (10-2).
Hawai‘i won its first WAC championship Friday when it defeated rival Boise State 39-27 at Aloha Stadium.
Hawai‘i was already bowl eligible but moved up in the Bowl Championship Series to No. 12 to become BCS eligible.
Hawai‘i is the only undefeated team in the nation and has a 12-game winning streak dating back to last year’s bowl victory over Arizona State.
The Warriors extended their win streak to a nation-best 12 in a row and have won 15 consecutive WAC games.
Hawai‘i senior quarterback Colt Brennan threw for 495 yards and five touchdowns against Boise State on Friday and also rushed for a score.
Brennan has thrown for 3,732 yards and 33 touchdowns so far this season. He has rushed for eight touchdowns on the season becoming responsible for 41 TDs in 2007.
During the Boise State game, Brennan surpassed former Brigham Young University star Ty Detmer to become the outright all-time NCAA leader in touchdown passes.
Fellow WAC school Fresno State clinched a bowl berth after beating Kansas State, 45-29 on Saturday.
The winner of next week’s game between Nevada and Louisiana Tech will also be bowl eligible.
The Warriors have one game left in the regular season as they host Washington on Saturday in a game to be shown on ESPN2. Hawai‘i must win against Washington in order to secure its BCS berth.
