Sanders gets volleyball WAC honors

Juliana Sanders, University of Hawai‘i middle hitter, was named the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.

According to a UH press release, this is the third career WAC Player of the Week honor for the senior and her first of the 2007 season.

The Castle High School graduate had two big matches against Loyola Marymount, hitting .579 with 12 kills on Nov. 20, while posting 13 kills, five blocks and a .647 hitting percentage on Nov. 21.

In the Senior Night game on Nov. 21, Sanders started the match a perfect 10-for-10 through just over two games. Sanders closed out the regular season with a .348 hitting percentage, averaging 2.52 kills and 1.25 blocks per game.

The Rainbow Wahine clinched its 14th straight 25-win season and head to the NCAA Tournament for the 15th straight season. Hawai‘i will travel to Louisville, Ky. to take on Tennessee State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

This was the final WAC Player of the Year announcement for this season.
