Gov. Linda Lingle has appointed eight people, including two Kaua‘i residents, to serve on the ‘Aha Kiole Advisory Committee.
Jean Ileialoha Keale Beniamina and Sharon A. Pomroy will serve on the committee which will help form an ‘aha moku council system that will serve in an advisory capacity to the Department of Land and Natural Resources on utilizing ancient Hawaiian practices for the management of the state’s natural resources.
The nominees were selected from a list of names provided by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs.
The members of the ‘Aha Kiole Advisory Committee include: Beniamina, associate professor of student services at Kaua‘i Community College, Pomroy of Lehua Mamo Flower Farm, Maui cultural consulant Leslie A. Kuloloio, Winifred I. K. Basques, retired from the Lana‘i Community Hospital; Moloka‘i homemaker and communit Hawaiian cultural specialist Vanda Hanakahi; Timothy Paulokaleioku Bailey, biological science technician, Haleakala¯ National Park, Hugh S. Lovell, of the Research Corporation University of Hawai‘i, Kamuela and Charles William Kanaha Kapua, Honolulu Police Department retiree.
