KAPA‘A — A new football stadium. The first Kapa‘a regular-season win in three years. A band that unveiled its new uniforms amidst elaborate props during the halftime field show.
Amanda Higa reigned over it all Friday night as the Kapa‘a High School Warriors celebrated its homecoming, the last of three in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation league.
Mark Baltazar wore the crown and cape of Mr. Homecoming, the only school to honor a homecoming king, and Jesse Amano served as Higa’s escort as she was presented in two motorcades and the formal halftime show.
Serving under the regal queen, Kawaihineaha‘aheo Oliver, escorted by Brandon Finlay, was named Ms. Warrior.
Leilani Laranio, completing a recent KIF volleyball season as a versatile member of the Warrior squad, was escorted by Travis Shigeta as Ms. Touchdown.
Hilary Fernandes, escorted by Tosh Uno, wore the banner and crown of Ms. Victory, a title made even sweeter as the varsity football team under coach Steve Kaui presented the court with its first regular-season win in three seasons.
Jocelyn Enrique, the fast-moving, hard-hitting shortstop for the Warrior softball team, wore the banner and crown of Ms. Spirit, escorted by Wesley Abalos.
Gabby Matayoshi, escorted by Kaimana Stevens represented the Class of 2008, joined by Sonya Tupou, escorted by Christian Taniguchi representing the Class of 2009.
Shalyn Tupou, escorted by Davin Chong, represented the sophomores and Kyara Bunao, escorted by Weston Moniz, did the honors for the freshmen.
The homecoming royalty were given extra treatment as they paraded onto the football field under the Kapa‘a High School Junior ROTC Sabre Team under the command of Col. Jerald Knudsen.
