Waimea High School’s junior varsity volleyball team was the only team to beat Kaua‘i High School’s team.
In Game 1 on Saturday evening, it looked as though both teams were in for a long night when Waimea took the first game in extra play, 26-24.
But Kaua‘i’s JV would prevail as they won in four sets, 24-26, 25-14, 25-18, 25-21.
In Game 2, Kaua‘i almost gave up its 8-point lead when Waimea came within 2 points.
By the third game, Kaua‘i went ahead with a team effort by setter Waileia Kanealii and hitters Teal Basquez and Kristin Yasay.
Waimea found itself in a must-win situation in Game 4. Kaua‘i had a slight lead and it was just enough to set up the final play by Alexa Tamashir.
Tamashir went back to serve for match point and came up huge for the Red Raiders serving an ace to secure the win.
Kaua‘i’s next match will be on Saturday when the Raiders take on Kapa‘a High School at the Kaua‘i high gym. The game begins at 5 p.m.
