Waimea’s varsity team (1-0 Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation, 4-0 overall) is coming off a 16-14 win over Kaua‘i High School last week and is looking to dominate for the rest of the season.
Waimea has a strong offense in running backs Oni Schmidt and Ikaika Rapacon and solid signal calling by Jayrald Watanabe.
Kapa‘a (0-1, 2-2) is looking to get a win in the KIF with its core of quarterbacks Chavis Kupihea, Vaughn Nebre, wide receiver Joseph Velasco and running back Daniel Lizama. In between the JV and varsity game, Mayor Bryan Baptiste and the Kaua‘i County Council will be on hand for the blessing of the new stadium.
The stadium has been in the works for a while and it was first played on by Kapa‘a for the Hawai‘i Prep game.
The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m. and the varsity game starts at 7:30 p.m.
