The Hanapepe Colts JPW ran to a 19-6 final over Kekaha led by Mikey Rita running for two TDs in the latest round of Pop Warner football action at Hanapepe Stadium.
Rita broke the ice with 1:14 showing in the first quarter on a 1-yard rush followed by a 56-yard run to the end zone on a punt return in the second quarter.
Ka‘ikea Sonoda, who ran in the point-after following Rita’s second TD, put the final Hanapepe score on the board with a 54-yard scamper early in the third quarter.
Kekaha was able to prevent the shutout when its QB Neno Costales connected with running back Kielen Malama who tossed the ball to receiver Karius Gampon for a 23-yard scoring play with 4:39 showing in the period for the final math.
PW: Hanapepe 21, Kekaha 16
Hanapepe PW quarterback Derek Callejo found William Ogawa for a 14-yard pass and TD to pull the Colts to a 21-16 showing in the final period.
Callejo iced the play with another pass, this time to Keoki Palau for the point-after player and the final math.
Callejo fired off three touchdown passes, including two in the final period that gave the Colts command of the game
Earlier, Callejo found Job Delos Reyes on a 6-yard scoring hit to pull Hanapepe to a 14-16 deficit after Callejo hit Delos Reyes for the successful point-after.
Hanapepe broke a 16-0 halftime deficit early in the third quarter when Callejo found Cy Corona for a 4-yard score with Kenneth Tacazon running in the PAT for the 16-7 deficit.
Acetyn Emayo and Paul Oligo opened the books for Kekaha in the first half when Emayo scored on a 4-yard run followed by Oligo pushing for a 1-yard TD in the second period.
Errol Lanning was 2-for-2 in PAT boots for the 16-0 Kekaha lead.
Midget: Kekaha 30,
Hanapepe 14
Kaimana Perreira-Alquiza ran for two TDs to lead the Kekaha Midgets to a 30-14 showing over Hanapepe in the Midget contest.
Jae Delos Reyes of Hanapepe found Steven Werner for 19 yards to open the scorebooks only to have Perreira-Alquiza answer on a 5-yard scoring run.
Wyatt Chicoine booted the Hanapepe PAT while Ken Morikawa Jr. did the Kekaha PAT boot for the 8-8 stalemate in the first quarter.
Kekaha went on to put three more scores on the board before Hanapepe answered late in the final period when Delos Reyes found Werner for a 7-yard scoring hit at the 5:56 mark.
Perreira-Alquiza’s 2-yard scoring run in the second period was joined by Kele Hanohano upping the ante with 1:13 left in the half on a 3-yard charge.
Morikawa, finishing 3-4 in PAT boots, accounted for the 24-8 math at the half.
Alika Emayo put the final Kekaha score on the board at the 4:40 mark in the third quarter on a 36-yard scoring run
JPW: Koloa 26, Kapa‘a 0
Kyren Rapacon ran for two TDs and a PAT to lead Koloa to a 26-0 showing over the JPW Kapa‘a Eagles.
With the win over the Eagles, Koloa JPW becomes the sole team to boast an undefeated record in the Kauai Pop Warner Association standings.
Kainoa Simao opened the books for Koloa in the first quarter on a 3-yard run to the end zone with Trey Aguano taking in the point-after for the early 7-0 lead.
Rapacon found open ground on Koloa’s next possession and broke the plane on a 38-yard scamper at the 4:15 mark in the first frame. He also graced the TD by running in the point-after.
Rapacon’s second TD, a 6-yarder, came in the second period for the 20-0 halftime bulge after the PAT failed.
Tystin Gummerus charged for 5 yards to pay dirt for Koloa’s final score in the third period, that PAT also coming up short.

Games continue this Saturday at the Hanapepe Stadium starting at 9 a.m.
The Kapa‘a Eagles take on the Lihu‘e Patriots in the first series that starts at 9 a.m. In the afternoon series, Kekaha hosts Koloa starting at 3 p.m.
