Volunteers and firefighters tackled a recurring blaze in Kalaheo yesterday, which scorched about 3 acres, said county spokeswoman Mary Daubert.
The cause is still unknown, though foul play is not suspected.
The fire, which burned off of Ihu Road, came as close as 50 feet to homes but did not damage any property.
Yesterday’s brushfire was called in at about 11 a.m. and extinguished by yesterday evening.
According to Daubert, 11 firefighters from the Kalaheo, Koloa and Hanapepe stations, as well as the battalion chief on duty and a firefighter trainee, fought the flames.
But there were at least three Kaua‘i residents — nearby neighbors and property owners — who came out to offer a helping hand — and a hose.
A fire in the same area, which started at about the same time Tuesday, was caused by a malfunctioning Bobcat during a brush cleaning operation.
About an acre burned in that blaze, which was contained by 3 p.m. Tuesday.
