Ruth I. Bedwell of Koloa, died Aug. 17, 2007, at her home at the age of 65.
Born April 22, 1942, in Harkau, Hungary, she was a degreed registered nurse. She worked 36 years in hospital leadership positions. She was a nursing administrative supervisor in California, a nursing instructor, and health evaluator for the state of California. Ruth designed and implemented the first nurse-to-patient-care ratio in the United States. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross and CASAabd a member of the Church Council of the Lihu‘e Lutheran Church. She was also active in the County Supervisor political arena for California.
She is survived by her mother Ida Thumberger of Lihu‘e; daughters Wency Wilson of Koloa and Heather Santesteban of Kalaheo and two grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Lihu‘e Lutheran Church, where service will begin at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow the celebration of life in the church cemetery.
Donations may be made to Kaua‘i Hospice.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
