An 11-year-old Kapa‘a boy was airlifted to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition Sunday night after being hit by a van in Kapahi, according to a Kaua‘i Police Department press release. His condition was not known at press time.

According to a preliminary report, the boy was leaving a private driveway on a dirt bike near the junction of Kawaihau and Kanepo‘onui roads at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a Ford van driven by a 43-year-old Kapa‘a man.
The boy sustained serious injuries and was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital via ambulance. He was later airlifted to The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu.
Police are continuing their investigation of the accident.
